Lotus on the Lake

20x20 oil

I posted this painting several times as I was working on it.  This is a large version of a much smaller plein air sketch I painted at Wildwood Preserve last August.  The painting went through many changes and I was constantly tweaking various sections, but I am pretty happy with how it came out.

This painting is being used to promote my upcoming show at Gallery @ Second.

It is also featured on the cover of June's "The Burg", along with a nice write up about my painting on pg. 26.  You can read that here

an unexpected paint out

I ended up with some available time at the last minute on Thursday so I was happy to join my friend Cecelia and 2 other artists in  Cecelia's neighbor's yard.  I was tempted to paint the poppies that the other 3 chose to work on, but I really liked the way the sunlight was hitting this small pond in the back of the property.

When I came home I did just a few adjustments to the lily pads - eliminating a few from the composition.  I still need to come up with a title for this and am open to suggestions.

 8x10 oil

Heading out to paint!

One of the things I love about my new pochade box is that it fits so easily in my bike carriers.  I could never do this with my French easel.
